Jen Underwood from the SQL Server BI Blog, describes her journey of evaluating Microsoft BI tool offerings to support the requirements of an Enterprise BI Project.
In the article Jen outlines the enterprise dashboard requirements that had to be supported and highlights (for her BI
project) that the latest MS BI toolset (eg. Power BI Excel, Power View, Power Map, Tabular SSAS) did not have the required functionality and customisable flexibility to meet those enterprise requirements.
In the end, SQL Server Reporting Services and PerformancePoint were chosen as the BI toolset for the enterprise BI project, and as stated by Jen …
“Although the new Power BI Excel, Power View and Power Map solutions are shown all the time for dashboards, only the sophisticated SQL Server Reporting Services and neglected PerformancePoint can actually deliver the most common enterprise dashboard requirements today. SQL Server Reporting Services and PerformancePoint also happen to have some on premise Mobile Business Intelligence capability using browser-based options on your favourite mobile tablet devices.”
