BI Corner – Power View and Power Map
Posted by Rob Risetto on October 09, 2015
In two recent BI projects customers were won over with some nice looking (snazzy) Power View dashboards and charts. Though really the hard work was in the data warehouse and cube design. If you haven’t used Power View yet then here’s a great SQL Server Pro article from Tyler Chessman on 6 tips and recent enhancements to Power
View (here). Note if you have Excel 2013 you can actually create Power View charts/reports without the requirement for SharePoint 2013.
Power Map is the new addition to the Power BI family and provides visualisation of geographical data in 2D and 3D formats, Microsoft positions the tool as a supplement to the existing mapping capabilities already available in Power View. In this Tyler Chessman’s article (here) you get a rundown of the Power Map capabilities and some real life examples.
